Abbott's 'illegal boats' billboard vandalised

A Liberal Party billboard in Perth tallying the number of asylum seeker boat arrivals under Labor federal governments has been vandalised.

A Liberal Party billboard in Perth tallying the number of asylum seeker boat arrivals under Labor federal governments has been vandalised.

Opposition leader Tony Abbott unveiled the billboard reading: "How many illegal boats have arrived since Labor took over?" in West Perth.

Designed to resemble a sporting score-board, it read 641.

But within 24 hours, that figure was blanked out and replaced with a zero.

Scrawled underneath was: "No crime to seek asylum".

Alex Bainbridge, a co-convenor of the Socialist Alliance in Perth, told Kristina Kukolja Mr Abbott's billboard was a shallow racist tactic.
