Vodafone said most of the telco's services have been restored after users across the country were left without phone coverage due to its mobile network crashing on Thursday morning.

"The disruption was caused by an outage at one of our network hubs at around 8am," Vodafone said in a media statement.

"Most services have now been restored, however some may continue to experience intermittent issues as devices reconnect.

"Customers who could not access the Vodafone network should have been able to access Triple Zero by connecting to other available mobile networks during this time.

"We apologise for the inconvenience and recommend customers restart their devices to help restore connections."

Earlier in the morning, Vodafone's network crash sent calls and data services into chaos across the country.

Vodafone's online network status checker was also failing, displaying a generic error message.

The outage-tracking website Downdetector had received tens of thousands of reports of problems with Vodafone's services before 10am.

"We are aware that some customers are experiencing intermittent issues with Vodafone mobile services," Vodafone said following the outage.
